FSSAI has flagged off Nine (9) mobile testing units under the initiative "Food Safety on Wheels"
Nine multipurpose mobile units called "Food Safety on Wheels" have been launched with the focus on:
1. Food testing
2. Public education
3. Conducting awareness programs
It includes a fully functional laboratory with facilities for rapid qualitative testing of common adulterants in food commodities.
These mobile units would spread awareness around food safety & hygiene and be useful for conducting training and certification programs for food businesses.
In addition, these mobile units would help the functionaries in the States to enhance their outreach and conduct surveillance activities even in far-flung areas. 62 such units are planned, at least one for each State / UT and more in respect of bigger States. Nine mobile units have been flagged-off as of now. This covers the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Jharkhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
