FSSAI PUSHES FOR AN ENHANCED CONSUMER GRIEVANCE REDRESS SYSTEM THROUGH INTEGRATION WITH ‘SMART CONSUMER’ APP

PRESS RELEASE BY FSSAI:

New Delhi, Sep, 12 2017: In an attempt to provide better consumer access particularly towards quick & satisfactory resolution of the grievances, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India has established a network integration with ‘Smart Consumer’ app for a robust, effective and efficient system of redressing consumer complaints relating to food apart from providing information about smart buying tips and claim busters.


With the said objective, a National Conference under the broad theme "Enabling Regulatory Compliance and Connecting with Consumers” was jointly organized by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and GS1 India.

FSSAI BANS USE OF STAPLE PINS IN TEA BAGS

Due to the concern of food safety, FSSAI has passed a direction on 18th July 2017 whereby teabags with staple pins have been banned.
Any loose staple pins pose a serious threat to consumer's health if ingested by mistake. Hence, it has been directed to stop the manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import of such unsafe packaging material.

FSSAI TO IDENTIFY EDIBLE OIL MANUFACTURERS WITH TRANS FAT >5% IN THEIR PRODUCTS

FSSAI has directed all the commissioners of food safety of all states/UTs to identify manufacturers/processors of edible oils who are not complying to the gazetted notification No. 4/15015/30/2011 dated 4th august 2015, wherein the limit of trans fat allowed in Interesterified Vegetable Fat/Oil, Margarine and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil was reduced from 10% to 5%.
